Tumblr might find this interesting. I redrew half of today’s page last week because the original version was a static, silly mess. While I do like that first panel of Duane and Mikaila ducking, it was a boring, dead-on shot that had very little visual connection or flow with the panel after. The two first panels on the new page are much more dynamic and frantic. Likewise the third panel originally just had Duane standing there like a doofus looking for someone else to bop, whereas the new page has him in motion trying to yank Mikaila outta there so it feels less silly that he doesn’t see masked guy coming. You don’t get the hero shot of his intense mug, but you get movement and a better sense of the confused panic of what’s happening

Take a lesson from me: Notice and fix these things BEFORE you freaking finish and render them and waste a bunch of time.

And you know how much more impact was create seeing him trying to defend lil Mikaila? That was one of the things I really focused on with this page. It was really powerful and I resonated with what I know about his character. Not only that, but yanking her out of there—even if he DID see the other masked assaulter, it would show he had more concern for getting her out of the path of his attacks rather than possibly failing to make a parry by attacking back.

I’m glad it made it to the final cut! Love your comic so much. So so very much, Ashley.

Oh wow, what a cute story! Hey, everyone, one of my favorite artists has made a charming story about mermaids and sailors and pirates!

Still waiting on commissions, but in the meantime, how about I finish up some gift art? I technically started these a long while ago, but I waited on coloring them because school caught up.

I realized this is a good batch because previous ones didn’t have any more-or-less animalistic/alien type critters! So there you have it!
